When I first joined the Hawai’i Life ‘Ohana, I had the opportunity to have professional head shots taken by one of the marketing team members. Let me start off by saying that I think I work for one of the hippest companies on the planet. To be honest, I really wasn’t sure what to expect but within the first five minutes, I knew it was going to be a fun experience. Let’s be honest, not many people really enjoy having their picture taken, especially when it’s work related and you actually have to pose and look like you are having fun. Not to mention there were several other fellow Hawai’i Lifers that were also waiting their turn to be photographed. The amount of encouragement and cheering I received from the sidelines solidified the fact that I am part of a unique team of realtors that sincerely care about each other. I was actually encouraged to get a little crazy and let my hair down.
When I received the copies of my photos, I had a hard time deciding on which one to use. I decided to take advantage of social media and post my two favorites and put it to a vote. What I found fascinating was that only 3 people of 32 actually chose the one of me in a goofy pose. While the remaining 29 chose the more subdued, “professional-looking” photo of me. They did comment that the other photo was actually a true depiction of my personality. Some went so far as to suggest other ways I could use the fun image because they liked it so much.
Since the biggest concern for people was that I look professional it made me wonder– what does professional actually look like? Can a person have a great sense of humor and be a little goofy sometimes and still be professional? Is it all about what you wear or how you look or does the fact that you actually are a professional and take your job seriously become the deciding factor?
One comment made by a very dear friend summed it up for me. She said, “Definitely this one! You’ll get people with a sense of humor.” To which I promptly responded, “That’s my goal.” Buying or selling a home has the potential to be stressful. I would like to think that I can bring a little joy and laughter to the table.
What’s your definition of the perfect realtor?
