When Kona Veterinary Service opened their satelite location Waikoloa Veterinarian Services location, we were beyond excited. For years, we had hoped for a trusted, local clinic right here in the community—and when the doors finally opened in 2021 in the Waikoloa Highlands Shopping Center, we all breathed a sigh of relief. We’ve since brought Dilly, Dotty, Zoey, and even our rabbits and guinea pigs to the Waikoloa location, and each visit has been met with exceptional care, compassion, and professionalism. Whether it’s a routine check-up or a more emotional appointment, the team always welcomes us with smiling faces and genuine warmth, making every experience feel supported and personal.
🌺 A Legacy of Care
Before Kona Vets opened their Waikoloa branch, we were longtime clients of Shannon Nakaya, our very first vet—one who made house calls and truly became part of our ‘ohana. When Shannon retired (much to our dismay!), we weren’t sure we’d find that same level of care again. But Kona Veterinary Service has absolutely stepped in and filled that space with heart, dedication, and aloha.
This isn’t just a satellite clinic—it’s a community hub for pet lovers. Located just minutes from home, it brings all the trusted experience of the Kona main office right into our neighborhood. The veterinarians are not only incredibly knowledgeable, but also gentle, attentive, and kind, both with animals and their humans. It is always a pleasure to see Dr. Bob the owner interacting with the rest of the crew. It truly is an ‘ohana of animal loving people. Dr Crimmins always say that Dotty is his favorite bulldog. Whether he just says that to make me smile or if it is true, I always feel that he treats her as such.
Appointments are by schedule only, which makes for a calm, efficient visit every time. And when emotions run high—as they sometimes do in veterinary care—the staff remains grounded, gracious, and empathetic. It’s something we’ve felt deeply and appreciated immensely.
From wellness exams to senior pet care and even laser therapy, the Waikoloa team does it all. They also offer a 24/7 after-hours hotline for urgent support, which is such a comfort when something comes up outside of normal hours. Ask me how I know…
