Recently my husband and I had a date lunch at a new restaurant that we had been hearing about. Hidden upstairs in The Shops at Mauna Lani, Alebrije Mexican Restaurant—a hidden gem that’s quickly becoming the go-to spot for those in search of authentic Mexican flavors and a warm, welcoming atmosphere.
As soon as you ascend the stairs and step into Alebrije, you’re greeted by the delightful aroma of fresh ingredients, the lively hum of conversation, and a splash of bold colors reminiscent of a Mexican fiesta. The restaurant’s décor is a celebration of culture, that make the space feel alive and inviting.
The menu at Alebrije features dishes that are both comforting and exciting. Each plate is crafted with care, from the flavorful tacos filled with perfectly seasoned meats and fresh toppings, to the rich, velvety mole that’s been simmered to perfection. The guacamole is a must-try.
Speaking of drinks, the bar at Alebrije a showstopper in its own right. I am proud to say my husbands hard work and amazing wood working skills are still there from when it was Shiono. An extensive selection of tequilas and mezcals ensures that there’s something for everyone, whether you’re a connoisseur or just looking for the perfect margarita. The bartenders are friendly and knowledgeable, happy to guide you through their menu of signature cocktails, each one more refreshing than the last.
What truly sets Alebrije apart is the atmosphere. It’s a gathering place to share a meal, and create lasting memories. The staff’s warm hospitality makes you feel like family, and the lively energy of the restaurant is infectious. Whether you’re coming for a quick lunch, a leisurely dinner, or drinks with friends, Alebrije is a place where everyone can feel at home.
If you’re in the mood for a culinary escape to Mexico, look no further than Alebrije Mexican Restaurant at The Shops at Mauna Lani. It’s a hidden gem worth discovering, and once you do, you’ll find yourself coming back again and again to experience the magic of this vibrant eatery. It is a little tricky to find so make sure to look for the six foot tall skeleton statue holding a Margarita.
See you there !
