My daughter Elissa and I had the absolute joy of volunteering at the 12th Annual Big Island Chocolate Festival, held at the Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort & Spa—and what an unforgettable experience it was!
From the moment we arrived, we knew were were in for a treat. Guests dressed to impress, the smell of chocolate was in the air, and the sound music filled the ballroom—it was truly a celebration of all things sweet, creative, and community-driven.
Elissa was stationed at the photo booth, where she helped guests capture their chocolate-covered memories. Watching her interact with everyone and keep the energy high in that space was such a proud mom moment! Meanwhile, I took on the humble (but essential!) role of door holder, welcoming guests with a smile. It may sound simple, but I loved being able to greet everyone with a smile as they walked through.
Even my husband came along, making it a full family affair. It was such a treat to share this experience together—it made the night even sweeter and he is an admitted chocoholic.
One of the highlights of the evening was the amazing silent auction. There were so many beautifully curated items and experiences up for bid, and it was heartwarming to see the community come together to support a local cause.
Did I mention the chocolate fountain? Both fun and functional. But the true showstopper for me? The lilikoi caramel brownie from the Kohanaiki booth. Rich, tart, sweet, and utterly decadent. I’m still thinking about it, seriously… It was also such a joy to see the culinary class from Kealakehe High School representing. Several local businesses were there showcasing their entries for the chocolate competition.
We’re so grateful to have been a small part of this incredible event. It was more than just a festival—it was a celebration of local talent, culture, and the community that supports it all. I already can’t wait for next year!
